Stretch Marks

They are a form of Scarring in the skin, mainly due to tearing of dermis. They are often happening after the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth or rapid weight changes. It can be affected by hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, bodybuilding, oral birth control pills , hormone replacement therapy etc. It can also occur when the body is producing extra cortisone, which is why people using corticosteroids are more susceptible.

Symptoms and signs

The appearance of stretch marks depends on the color of the skin; they can start out pink, reddish brown, brown, or dark brown, and fade over time to a more silvery color.

Most likely to appear in places where larger amounts of fat are stored.

Causes of stretch marks:

Sometimes they may be due to hormonal and genetic problems.
During growing periods, teenagers can be affected with this.
Sometimes they are caused by the intake of chemical-based or corticosteroid medicines.
Nutrition Deficiency, mainly in essential minerals and vitamins also leads to stretch marks.
